Understanding Ubuntu Philosphy

At DIQ Technologies we are huge fans of Ubuntu open source Linux distribution and the philosophy behind this product.

Almost all our servers except for those hosted in United States are build on top of Ubuntu. Of the 120 odd mail/web servers we maintain a colossal 79 of them are build on top of Ubuntu. Many of the others are on Debian derivatives.

We use Ubuntu as a desktop operating system too for developing software.

And what attracts us the most is philosophy that drives Ubuntu.

here is an excerpt from their web site.

  1. Every computer user should have the freedom to download, run, copy, distribute, study, share, change and improve their software for any purpose, without paying licensing fees.

  2. Every computer user should be able to use their software in the language of their choice.

  3. Every computer user should be given every opportunity to use software, even if they work under a disability.

We adhere a lot to Ubuntu philosphy. We have provided the source code of every software or solution that we have built to our customers, including modifications, patches etc.
